A Letter From the CEO
It has been widely recognized by media, analysts and our community that MindTouch has revolutionized the way companies capture, edit and collaborate on information. As a result of the innovation provided by the MindTouch platform to the enterprise we have witnessed 4 quarters of remarkable revenue growth.
Yes, this is the real revenue graph for MindTouch. I wrote about the remarkable revenue growth of MindTouch and shared some insights in building an open source business in a recent blog post. This post was so popular it was picked up by CNET and other media outlets. The most important part of my post is my explanation of the importance of building community.
Community is the life blood of any open source company. It is the only way an open source company can survive and thrive. Without community the cost of customer acquisition, which funds development, skyrockets and so too does the cost of the software. In another recent blog post I outlined some statistical facts about the MindTouch community.
The most striking fact I shared in this post was how MindTouch users and customers discovered MindTouch:
1. 32% Search engine
2. 17% Word of mouth (friend, co-worker, twitter, etc)
3. 10.19% Blogs/Forums
2% Advertisement (2nd to last)
This means MindTouch is spread mostly by word of mouth. Clearly this is a reflection of the quality and commitment of the community. Thank you. Thank you very much.
Recognizing the strength and influence of the MindTouch community I want to personally ask that you help us through the summer. As you know the summer months are always slower for business. I am asking you to buoy MindTouch by exerting your influence and strength by spreading the word about MindTouch. Blog, embed a badge, tweet, reblog, retweet, record a short video, join the MindTouch Facebook group, write and even just tell friends and family to download MindTouch and try it out. If you evangelize MindTouch email [email protected] your physical address and tshirt size and she will mail you a free MindTouch tshirt. Finally, be sure to follow MindTouch on Twitter for daily tips.
Thank you for all your support and all of us here at MindTouch look forward to delivering more innovation to you in the coming months.
MindTouch at OSCON 2009
MindTouch again had a strong presence at the annual O’Reilly Open Source Conference (OSCON) in San Jose. MindTouch CEO, Aaron Fulkerson participated on a panel and presented: How to Become a RESTafarian WOArrior about Web Oriented Architecture. MindTouch product support, Brian Hill facilitated a BoF session titled “Bash and Beyond“, and MindTouch co-sponsored the LinuxFund’s 10 year birthday party with Kaltura.
We also announced the MindTouch Minneopa Release. This release allows you to add collaborative video to MindTouch sites, package applications built in MindTouch for distribution, and stage content for greater collaboration and control. Read some of our Minneopa Release coverage below.
MindTouch has steadily been adding features to its platform aimed towards developers, including the ability to build rich applications off of MindTouch’s platform….
“With this release,” said CEO Aaron Fulkerson, “the thousands of developers building collaborative networking applications, enterprise dashboards and composite applications on the MindTouch platform will now be able to easily package and share their applications and mashups.”
The entire idea of a Java application server got a shaking this week from MindTouch, which announced a new application packaging feature for its collaboration platform…
MindTouch Collaborative Networks: Measurable ROI
We have received a number of requests recently from companies looking for hard ROI data on our Intranet Collaborative Network so that they can sell our solution internally. The issue that immediately comes to mind is that each company uses their intranet differently so that quantifying ROI is a subjective exercise. In other words, every company will realize benefits and ROI differently depending on how they use their Intranet….
A few areas that have proven to yield hard ROI benefits using MindTouch:
1. I have seen companies redeploy or reduce IT staff by creating an “employee driven” Intranet. Intranet 1.0 was characterized by content that needed to be uploaded by IT staff, where the premise of Collaborative Networks is to allow employees to produce most of the content.
MindTouch Community News
